Overview

As a Penetration Tester you will perform formal and comprehensive penetration testing assessments, including producing full written reports to appropriate standards and within agreed deadlines. Summary:

The Intern role provides administrative and project support within assigned department, while gaining valuable, hands-on experience in a healthcare environment.

We are a team of about 20 engineers and analysts responsible for various aspects of MaineHealth's Cyber Security, Identity and Access Management, and Risk Mitigation. We are mostly hybrid although some team members work only from home. Our interns assist with a variety of tasks related to team operations or specific projects depending upon workload requirements. We encourage interns to meet with folks from other areas of technology that they may be interested in as well.

In addition to projects, interns would be involved with project and team meetings, individual one on ones, a variety of analysis, and other tasks depending upon their knowledge and experience.

Preference will be given to junior or senior undergraduate students studying cyber security, computer science/programming, data analysis, and software design. Knowledge of identity management, active directory, or SQL is a plus.

PURPOSE OF CLASS:

At UConn Health, this class is accountable for organizing and managing large and varied data sets; analyzing complex data to optimize business operations and identify trends for improvement; and communicating findings into meaningful understanding using data visualization and detailed reports.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Compiles and organizes large datasets from various sources, including electronic health records, patient charts, multiple administrative databases, patient surveys, and other pertinent sources;

Builds and maintains a valid, accurate and uniformed data repository to ensure data integrity and availability of appropriate data for evaluation needs;

Writes code from various sources to process raw data elements into metrics for analysis; selects and filters relevant information from multiple sources;

Applies critical thinking and logic to construct data sets to achieve accurate comparisons to benchmarks;

Collaborates with stakeholders to identify objectives and goals of analysis; coordinates and prioritizes analytic projects; manages and executes projects within targeted timelines;

Performs advanced statistical analyses to identify patterns and trends and opportunity assessments to assist in delivering optimal healthcare management and decision making;

Designs data visualizations and determines the best way to present data in a clear understandable format using reports, drilldowns, tables, gauges, graphs, charts and other intuitive graphical add-ons;

Prepares and delivers results to leadership with analytic insights, interpretations, and recommendations;

Performs other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Considerable knowledge of health care industry standards and practices in descriptive/predictive analytics and reporting concepts;

Applied knowledge of statistical analyses including opportunity assessments, clinical and financial risk tracking, trend identification and predictive modeling exercises;

Advanced knowledge and proficiency of data management applications, Microsoft Office suite, data visualization tools, reporting tools, database programming languages, and related software and other applications;

Advanced knowledge in importing data for use in report software, spreadsheets, graphs and flowcharts;

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:

Six (6) years of experience in a healthcare data analytical role.

SUBSTITUTION ALLOWED:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information management systems, healthcare, mathematics, statistics or related field and two (2) years of experience may be substituted for general experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Proficiency in data engineering, analytics and visualization tools and techniques including SQL (complex queries, functions and stored procedures), Python, R and Tableau.

Minimum 2 years of experience with medical informatics, data engineering, data mining, machine learning, data ETL, optimization, and report extraction, using electronic health record data.

Experience with Epic electronic medical records platform.

Experience with data analytics related to value-based programs.

SCHEDULE: This position is full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm.

About the Role:

As an AI-Powered Threat Detection Engineer, you’ll develop intelligent security systems that learn from threat patterns, predict malicious behavior, and automate incident response. You’ll work on the cutting edge of AI-driven cyber defense, designing tools that detect insider threats, advanced persistent threats (APT), and zero-day exploits.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who loves solving complex problems using AI, machine learning, and cybersecurity expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build and deploy AI/ML models for behavioral analytics and threat scoring.
• Use real-time streaming data to identify and respond to emerging cyber threats.
• Integrate your models into SIEM and SOAR platforms for automated defense.
• Conduct red team vs. blue team simulations using generated attack data.
• Lead data engineering efforts for collecting, cleaning, and labeling threat logs.
• Work closely with cybersecurity analysts and DevSecOps teams.
• Research and implement deep learning approaches for malware classification.

 Required Skills:

• Solid foundation in cybersecurity principles and incident detection
• Strong coding skills in Python (Pandas, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow or PyTorch)
• Proficiency in data pipelines and APIs (Kafka, REST, Splunk, Elasticsearch)
• Experience with SIEM tools (e.g., QRadar, Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel)

The role

This is a hands-on role working with the latest technologies to help design, build, operate and maintain the in-house developed services the Cyber Security team provide to the business, as well as supporting the implementation of commercial tooling.

Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)

• Understanding of cloud native applications best practices such as using infrastructure-as-code.
• Basic understanding of security controls (e.g. IAM) within cloud environments
• Knowledge of common security weaknesses and associated mitigations within modern applications
• Ability to pragmatically suggest security controls
• Good personal communications style in line with ITV's culture
• Work autonomously and in a team, be inquisitive and demonstrate initiative in identifying and resolving problems across the business
