Responsibilities

• Data analysis - Identify, source, examine, clean, visualize and prep datasets for statistical analysis, perform EDA and apply statistical techniques to examine and interpret large datasets, identify trends, patterns and correlations
• Modeling – Create or apply predictive and prescriptive models to datasets and perform model fit tests
• Communication - Present complex analytical insights to Executives in business-friendly language through visual data products, reports and presentations and translate findings into their domain specific context
• Partner Cultivation – build a business network with teams outside the WWCE department to understand requirements, define problem statements and create analytical approaches to support strategic decisions
• Experimentation – design interventions based on prescriptive models and provide a plan for implementing the experiments and measure the results and finally provide recommendations for next steps
• Understanding of current challenges surrounding AI: demonstrate understanding of concepts such as AI ethics, fairness, data leakage, bias and model drift

The role

This is a hands-on role working with the latest technologies to help design, build, operate and maintain the in-house developed services the Cyber Security team provide to the business, as well as supporting the implementation of commercial tooling.

The Intern role provides administrative and project support within assigned department, while gaining valuable, hands-on experience in a healthcare environment.

We are a team of about 20 engineers and analysts responsible for various aspects of MaineHealth's Cyber Security, Identity and Access Management, and Risk Mitigation. We are mostly hybrid although some team members work only from home. Our interns assist with a variety of tasks related to team operations or specific projects depending upon workload requirements. We encourage interns to meet with folks from other areas of technology that they may be interested in as well.

The salary range for this role is $89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. We are looking for a motivated mid-level software engineer with strong skills in JavaScript, Angular, Java, Spring Boot, and test automation. You will be responsible for building, maintaining, and refactoring core client services, with a focus on both feature development and testing. The ideal candidate will have experience in end-to-end testing and will play a key role in delivering high-quality software through robust test automation.

What you have

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 4+ years professional experience in software engineering
• 3+ years of Java and JavaScript
• 3+ years of test-driven development and quality automation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency in JavaScript and Angular, with experience in developing reusable components and services.
• Solid knowledge of Java and Spring Boot for backend development, with an understanding of API design and maintenance. Experience in end-to-end testing frameworks such as WebDriver and Selenium.
• Familiarity with test automation practices and tools.
• Experience in refactoring and maintaining legacy code to improve performance and reliability.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
• Develop, maintain, and refactor core client services using JavaScript(Angular) for frontend and Java(Spring Boot) for backend.
• Implement and optimize end-to-end testing solutions to ensure seamless functionality across systems.
• Build and maintain test automation suites for both frontend and backend components.
• Work with cross-functional teams to identify, refactor, and maintain legacy code to ensure scalability and performance.
• Collaborate with team members to improve the maintainability and reliability of critical client services.
• Troubleshoot and debug applications, addressing issues in both code and infrastructure.
• Follow agile development practices and contribute to continuous process improvement.
